BlueTraker to exploit the even higher speeds and bandwidth from Iridiums NEXT satellites in LEO

BlueTraker is developing new solutions and services for vessel tracking, fleet management and the next generation of IoT systems that will exploit the functionalities supported by the new Iridium satellites.

On the 14th of January 2017 BlueTraker’s technology partner Iridium launched 10 new satellites into Low-Earth orbit with SpaceX reusable rockets. Due to the sheer size and complexity of the project, it has been billed as one of the largest tech upgrades in history. The launch which is the first of part of a $3 billion dollar upgrade for Iridium’s satellite constellation will provide the next generation data and mobile voice relay networks.

BlueTraker’s project teams are putting in a lot of time and energy in preparation for the firmware upgrade which is due to go live shortly. The new constellation will ensure greater reliability for BlueTraker’s range of products and solutions for monitoring vessels on the seas. Products such as the BlueTraker VMS, the BlueSenz range of IoT sensors and BlueTraker’s SecondScreen fishing fleet analytics software will be able to offer even greater functionality allowing more in-depth observation and analysis of the fishing effort of a fishing fleet.

BlueSenz IoT for Fisheries is revolutionizing the way that FMCs manage their fish stocks and marine reserves. By receiving precise and accurate fishing effort data directly from the seas, FMCs can form a more accurate picture of how to sustainably manage their fisheries.

 

WinchTag is a batteryless RFID metal bolt that can be attached to different types of fishing winches. WinchTag provides a way for FMCs (by reading them with a mobile RFID reader) to have a ‘fishing gear register’ of their fleet.

Octopus 10 is an advanced tablet computer with pre-installed applications for fishermen. It allows fishermen to work more effectively with their FMC and for the FMC to be in continuous contact with their fishermen.

WinchSenz is a sensor device that is locked directly onto the WinchTag which is mounted on the winch.It allows the FMC to determine whether a fishing net is being deployed or hauled from the sea and it also measures the length of the net deployed.
